Orquesta Sinfonica Nacional del Ecuador and Russian speaking musicians. May 2014.

Few days ago my friends and I went to the concert;

Orquesta Sinfonica Nacional del Ecuador

con solista invitado Alessandro Borgomanero, violin (Italia)

at Casa de la Musica Ecuador  http://casadelamusica.ec/

The concert was sponsored by the Embassy of Italy and the Embassy of Germany, so ticket was only $10. The concert was part of "Semana de la Union Europea" and part of the public were  diplomats from various embassies. It was fascinating to watch the public.

I think that diplomats from Russian embassy skipped this concert and you probably have an idea why, but there are some Russian speaking musicians in the Orquesta Sinfonica Nacional del Ecuador.

While tensions mount between some countries, art is above politics.

Once per year the Russian community in Quito has a party. Usually a few hundred people attend, some Russian, some Ecuadorian, and some Norteamericanos, like us - lol.
This year party:

Club de oficiales de la Policia
Salon: Chimborazo
Av. de la Prensa y Juan Galarza
Tickets: $10 per person
You can buy tickets at the door

At the party Russian cuisine (food) will be for sale, wine, and of course vodka.
There will be a cultural program, discotheque - after few shots of vodka, all of a sudden the dancer in you will awaken!!!

Remember Russian speaking guy, let's call him A, who was accused of being involved in the production of child porno?

Here's how it happened. A wrote on a forum for Russian-speaking people living in Ecuador
about another Russian speaking guy, we will call him G.
A publicly criticized G for being a dishonest person.
A put his accusations about G, which were true, in very harsh words.
G went to the police and reported A as a child porno producer.
Next thing A knows - Ecuadorian police and Brazilian Interpol are storming his rental house.
They didn't find any evidence, hence they didn't arrest A, but his computers, all three or four of them were taken. Considering A made his money doing online business, it was devastating, let alone a mental trauma to go thru this.

Get-together for Russian community

The Russian embassy has a Get-together a few times per year where Russian people go to the embassy or conference hall in nice hotel, eat, drink, and talk.
Usually the Ambassador, Consul, and other embassy personnel mingle with the crowd. In January, 2009, Leo and I went to one of these get-togethers. We had a chance to talk to the Consul. Since then, once in a while, I do tours of Centro Historico for the guests of the embassy.
The last get-together was January 13th, a celebration of Russian X-mas.

On February 3rd, Brazilian Interpol and Ecuadorian police came to search the house of a Russian-speaking person. He is accused in managing a child pornography site. The person lives in a suburb of Quito since 2004. Interpol and the police confiscated his computers and the person is under house arrest.
